About

Stantons Farm is based in Black Notley, a small civil parish in the heart of the Essex countryside, approximately 1.5 miles south of Braintree. The farm can trace its origins back to the 12th century and is originally thought to have comprised of 250 acres and farmed both livestock and arable throughout its history.

Whilst a number of the original farmstead buildings remain on the site, the estate was split up in the 1960s and some of the agricultural buildings and a large proportion of the land are now under different possession. The main farmhouse still resides within the Stantons farm ownership and is a fine Grade 1 listed building dating from the thirteenth century. The house is timber framed and reputed to be the second oldest continuously occupied dwelling in Essex. The house reflects significant architectural and historic interest as an early example dwelling, demonstrating evolving construction techniques and boasts many of its original features.

Stantons Farm House is a busy family home and whilst somewhat reduced from its expansive origins of the past, still stands on a large acreage, much of which is now the home to over 60 animals including Alpacas, Goats, Sheep, Pigs, Cows, Donkeys, Pigs and Chickens.

Stantons Farm offers educational and fun animal experiences to the public, which includes guided petting farm experiences, animal walks, meet and greet sessions and farmer experiences, we also offer both on and offsite private hire of our animals for parties, weddings, and events.

We also offer educational visits for schools and cater for groups from early years up to university students, and can tailor the visit to fit any area of the curriculum. In addition we offer visits for clubs, schools and home education.

All of our experiences are tailored to educate guests on animal husbandry, behaviour and general history of the species.
